LaSER researcher and author of the study “The Baltic Defence Industry: United We Stand, Divided We Fall”, Roberts Kits, took part in the latest episode of the Latvian National Armed Forces’ Sargs.lv podcast “Droši ir zināt”, focusing on the development and future prospects of the defence industries in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
During the discussion, Kits examined the rapid growth of the defence sector in the Baltic states, driven by increasing national defence spending, as well as developments in areas such as unmanned systems, robotics, electronics and ammunition production. The discussion also addressed the current scale of defence companies in the Baltic region, the importance of regional cooperation, and the sector’s potential for further growth.
The podcast also explored what steps businesses and governments could take to strengthen the competitiveness of the Baltic defence industry and support its development towards the level of more established defence industries, such as those of Finland and Israel.
