LaSER researcher and planner Oskars Leosks participated in the World Latvian Youth Seminar “Uguntiņu noturēju”, organised by the Latvian Youth Council (LJP) and 2×2 (Divreizdivi), which took place from 1 to 5 May at the “Kurzeme” residence. The seminar was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.

Oskars Leosks delivered a lecture on community resilience during wartime, focusing on the role of society in strengthening national resilience and the ability of local communities to prepare for various crisis situations. The lecture explored the factors that contribute to community resilience, mutual trust, and effective cooperation both in everyday life and during emergencies.

The “Uguntiņu noturēju” seminar brought together Latvian youth from around the world, offering an educational programme on security in its broadest sense — from critical thinking, diplomacy, and international security to civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and societal resilience. The aim of the programme was to strengthen young people’s understanding of their role in advancing Latvia’s security, democracy, and civil society.
