For the second consecutive year, LaSER took part in the LAMPA conversation festival, contributing to a panel on Latvia’s future development scenarios. The discussion, titled “Baltic Tiger or Lonely Latvia?”, brought together University of Latvia professor and LaSER director Daunis Auers, Minister of Finance Arvils Ašeradens, Swedbank Latvia CEO Lauris Mencis, and entrepreneur and investor Kristīne Bērziņa. The conversation was moderated by Līva Zorgenfreija, Chief Economist at Swedbank.
The conversation began with Daunis Auers outlining the four development scenarios for Latvia developed by LaSER, as well as key findings from the think tank’s latest research. The panel then engaged in a discussion about Latvia’s current development path, the ambitions of the state and the business community, and the decisions needed to move Latvia closer to a desirable future. Participants also debated which sectors hold the most potential for growth, the role of the state in supporting this growth, and what kind of leadership – both political and entrepreneurial – will be required to realize the Baltic Tiger scenario. The conversation served as a call for bolder action and long-term thinking to ensure a competitive and sustainable future for Latvia.
